Mattie Lou Ming Thompson and Daniel Christopher Mattingly were married Saturday evening at the bride’s family farm in Pounding Mill, Va. Dr. Lloyd LeGrand Thompson III, an uncle of the bride who was appointed by the Tazwell County Circuit Court as a one-day officiant, performed the ceremony. The couple met at Yale, from which they graduated, she cum laude. The bridegroom also holds a master’s in East Asian Studies from Yale. The bride, 27, is keeping her name. In June, she received a master’s in architecture at Harvard. She is the daughter of Chiu Yee Thompson and Michael C. Thompson of Cedar Bluff, Va. The bride’s parents are the owners of Cuz’s Uptown Barbeque, a Southern and Asian restaurant on the Thompson family farm. The bridegroom, 29, is studying for a Ph.D. in political science at the University of California, Berkeley. He is a son of Kristi Mattingly and Kevin Mattingly of Washington, Vt. The bridegroom’s mother is a teacher at Dutch Neck Elementary School in West Windsor, N.J. His father is a science teacher and dean of faculty at the Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, N.J.

Jane Smith, Topeka, and John Doehi, Lawrence, were married January 9th, at Sixth Avenue Ballroom in Topeka, with the Rev. Don Smith officiating. The bride is the daughter of David and Teresa Smith, Topeka. The groom is the son of George Doeh and Pat Doeh, both of Lawrence. Maid of honor was Stacy Gordon. Best man was Rod Green. Bridesmaids were Sarah Bean, April Rain, Nikki Noa, Mariah Chevera and Taylor Lautner. Groomsmen were Dave Star and Steven Doeh. A reception followed at Sixth Avenue Ballroom. The bride is a 2000 graduate of Olathe South High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Communications from Kansas University in 2008 and is employed at Hill's Pet Nutrition. The groom is a 1994 graduate of Lawrence High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from KU in 1998 and is employed at Hilltop Child Development Center. The couple reside in Lawrence.
